What Gaming Gear Do You Need for PC Gaming?

If you’re looking to check off the PC gaming accessories you need and what should be considered before taking the plunge, our simple guide will help you make the right decision:

Budget

Having the absolute best PC gaming accessories will run into the thousands of dollars and even intermediate setups are not cheap, assuming you already have decent gaming hardware under the hood, which itself is expensive. But whatever your budget, there are certain things to look out for to improve your gaming experience.

Regular HD for a monitor is fine, but for gaming, it should still have a high refresh rate and either GSync or FreeSync to work well with your graphics card and prevent tearing and stuttering of the image during intensive and fast-paced action. For the best experience, you’ll want 1440p/2K, and something like the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q monitor.

While there’s no need to fork out for the best speakers a music-aficionado would go for, you definitely need some kind of speakers to provide immersive gameplay. Those with digital surround sound or some kind of directional targeting cost more but provide a realistic in-game experience. I.e. if there’s gunfire from the left, you hear it from the left.

RGB/Chroma/Lighting is mostly a gimmick and makes certain products cost more but if set up right it does add an extra element to the gameplay, such as flashing red if you’re losing life or mimicking on-screen environmental colors for immersion.

Ultimately, if you’re on a budget your money should mostly go towards the monitor and a gaming mouse if you’re playing FPSs

Type of Gaming

The types of games you play will also determine what gaming gear you require. First Person Shooters need the precision of a gaming mouse and surface, while third-person adventure-style games are fine with a USB control pad or regular mouse and keyboard. Likewise, to get the most out of flight simulators or racers, you might consider yokes or wheels. Dedicated MMO players might even go for a keypad.

If you want to verbally interact with others during online gaming, a headset is a must-have. Streamers might want to up the quality of their mic to something standalone

Internet Connection

Online gaming obviously requires an internet connection, but it also needs to be stable, have a good Wi-Fi range (though preferably your gaming PC should be wired), and ideally have multiple frequency bands and bandwidth prioritization and efficiency technology so your game doesn’t lag. That’s where a gaming router or at least a good regular router helps.

Comfort

Games are longer and more addictive than ever before and serious gamers clock in some long hours. You might not feel it now, but without comfortable accessories, long gaming sessions can lead to anything from carpal tunnel and repetitive strain, to bad backs and neck pain. This is where comfortable gaming chairs, mats and surfaces, and keyboards with rests come in to play.

Brand

Just because the term gaming is slapped on the side of a box doesn’t really mean the product is optimized for gaming. Even for cheaper products try to stick with a known, well-trusted brand that is well-reviewed online, such as Logitech, Razer, SteelSeries, Asus, Corsair, etc. And, even if you don’t go with a specific brand, at least look for gaming specs from established brands like Samsung, Dell, etc. Absolutely stay away from Wish or cheap products from online Asian or Chinese marketplaces.

What Are the Benefits of Using Quality PC Gaming Accessories?

There’s a lot of PC gaming gear out there that claims to offer good performance when playing the latest titles. But what are the benefits of choosing the best PC gaming accessories brands over cheaper or unbranded varieties?

Performance

Gaming is a unique task for a PC and to perform at its best you need quality products designed specifically with that in mind. Only the best-branded gaming gear stands up to the test and this can be easily researched by looking at benchmark testing online – sites that compare specs and do tests to measure true performance.

Longevity

Higher quality PC gaming accessories are made with better, more sturdy materials and will last longer under intensive use. Not only are they less likely to physically break but their drivers and online support will carry on for many years to come.

Compatibility

The best PC gaming accessories are widely compatible with PC hardware and other devices, especially as we continue into the ‘smart’ era. A lot of accessories can also be used for console gaming and vice versa. On the other hand, cheaper accessories use older USB technology, sometimes aren’t even recognized, and can rarely be synced up to smart devices.

Comfort

High-quality PC accessories are generally better designed, less clunky, and in terms of mice, keyboards, etc, much more comfortable. This is especially important if you plan to spend many hours gaming. There’s nothing worse than hurting your hands because of poorly made gaming products.

Respect

Let’s face it, lots of us now game stream as well, or are at least interacting with others online. Without something that resembles a pro gaming setup, you’re going to lose some respect.

For $249.99 MSRP, you can pick up this very comfortable headset from Steelseries. It is packed with options and offers great sound for gamers on all systems. While it’s quite expensive compared to a lot of headsets on the market, you get a lot for that price. Let’s take a closer look:

Although it was released in 2018 it still hangs with the pack because it was the first gaming headset to come with genuine Hi-Res audio support. Everyone else is still playing catch-up. It’s a full headset with a mic, making it ideal for PS or PC gamers, though our only nit-pick is that the mic can peak quite easily.

The Arctis Pro is equipped with a Game DAC hardware unit and all the necessary cords to hook the headset up, including an optical cord, USB, and even a 3.5mm jack if you want to use this beast on your phone.

As far as comfort and general use, there are no complaints. It’s made from high-quality parts, it’s nicely elasticated, and you can actually adjust them for the perfect fit. We had no problem with heat or discomfort after hours of gameplay.

With DAC you can mix between gaming and calls, change the volume on the fly, and ensure there’s no interference. With realistic surround sound, this is currently one of the best computer accessories for gamers and will go well with any top gaming PC.

Part of our love for this 2022 gaming headset is its name. The other part is its powerful bass, good quality mic, and programmable lighting – yeah, it’s definitely for gamers and we love it.

At $129.99 we find it affordable for the quality it offers. It provides THX Spatial Audio for a loud and full surround sound experience, all while doing so in great comfort and style – if pulsing green lighting is your thing.

The fact that it’s hardwired only is not a major issue, as that’s fairly standard, but it’s also only USB, so that knocks off a quarter of a star.

Feature-wise, you can change the volume with a wheel at the back of the earcup. The mute button is on the mic capsule and will glow red when squeezed. Once plugged in you’ll get the Razer Synapse software, which gives you equalizer, mixer, mic, and lighting settings, meaning its full potential is only found on the PC. If you want to really vibe, you can sync the lights with all your other Razer gear!

We found the mic surprisingly high quality, with good Active Noise Cancellation (if you remember to turn it on). Like most headsets, it’s not the best for recordings, but for straight gaming or streaming it’s perfect. And, for listening to music the bass is exceptional.

Overall, if you want a high-quality gaming headset for PC, every wheelspin, gunshot, and step on crunchy gravel loudly and clearly, with some extra lighting goodness – this easily sits within the best computer gaming setup.

This is the headset you want if you’re looking for options at less than $100, which is entry-level for proper gaming headsets. For just $59.99 MSRP you get a competent wireless full surround sound experience, which is light and comfortable for those long day or night sessions.

Battery life is good at around 17 hours and it’s no problem to connect via USB. When you are wireless, it uses a 2.4GHz dongle to ensure you don’t get any quality loss, lagging, or other annoying interference because of a poor connection. To change volume just stroke the wheel behind the ear cup.

The mic is surprisingly good at this price point, with a 50Hz to 18kHz frequency range, noise cancellation, and a sturdy but responsive boom arm that you can position just the way you like it.

Its software is basic, allowing you to turn 7.1 on or off and change volumes. In-play you get good bass if a little on the heavy side. The sound is generally clear and directional – you won’t miss signals in the distance during a heavy gunfight, for example.

The best PC gaming headset for the money and perfect as regular computer gaming gear. However, it’s not necessarily something you’d use for a streaming channel or video/podcast production.

The Razer Seirēn X is an affordable and high-quality USB mic, ideal for streamers who are beyond headsets and want something a bit more professional. It’s essentially plug-and-play, designed well to be portable, and will pick up good vocals without the need for much post-production for secondary uploads.

However, despite being frontward facing you can still often hear keyboard and mouse noise and the bass and low mid-range could be better. For $99.99 MRSP though, we’d say it’s one of the best at this price point.

Design-wise, it’s as small as a soda can and looks professional in black (not overly-gamer), though you can always go for the pink model if you prefer to stand out. It is also well made and sturdy to absorb shock and desk juddering, and you can change the volume and mute controls with a dial and button on the mic itself.

The specs are what you’d expect at this price; one supercardioid polar pattern16-bit bit rate, and 48KHz sample rate. As noted, its background cancellation is not great, but it’s only immediate noises that it’ll pick up, not people chattering downstairs.

Ultimately, for gaming and streaming on a budget without being called out by your friends for sounding like a robot, there’s a lot to like about the Razer Seirēn X.

Ideal for podcasters, gamers, and streamers who don’t want to break their bank balance. The Elgato Wave 3 is a professional-looking USB mic that provides solid clean audio, a sturdy stand, and useful mixer software to combine and switch through audio sources mid-stream. At $119.99 MRSP it’s a step-up from entry-level and will instantly improve any cool gaming PC.

Spec-wise it has a good 70Hz to 20kHz frequency range, 24 bitrate, and 96KHz sample rate, which is good for this price point. However, there’s still only one fixed cardioid, so it will attempt to focus solely on your vocals (and to be fair it does this wеll). There are no mic switching patterns, so this isn’t something a musician could use, for example.

You get a dial/button combo for volume, gain, headphone volume, and mute, with LED lights to see levels. There’s also a 3.5mm jack to plug your headphones directly into the mic.

Wave Link software is included for free so you can blend audio sources efficiently. This is very light on resources, so you won’t get lag on even the oldest of PCs. A great feature for streamers.

Overall, sound quality is good live and will require minimal post-production for re-uploads or other productions.

This extended gaming surface from Razer ticks all the boxes for serious gamers and can be picked up for less than $60 in some cases, making it one of those awesome gamer gifts. It illuminates in multiple ways and colors when you swipe your mouse across, take your aim, and celebrate in vibrant victory.

Razer Chroma delivers a spectrum of 16.8 million colors and can be easily personalized in an endless amount of ways, from alerts and notifications to certain in-game actions. What’s more, it’s optimized with gaming mice in mind, meaning no sensitivity issues and responsive tracking.

The material is designed to find the balance between speed and control, which while we think it does well, the occasional wrinkling can get annoying and it’s far from perfect. On the other hand, it’s somehow pretty good at keeping the dust away.

The dimensions can accommodate your keyboard and mouse, giving you space of 294 mm / 11.57 in (Length) X 920 mm / 36.22 in (Width) X 3 mm / 0.12 in (Height).

Like a lot of this type of cool gamer gear, you are better off performance-wise and financially to get everything from the same brand in a bundle.

Let’s face it, gaming mats can be more fun than substance, but SteelSeries delivers high performance with their QCK Prism RGB gaming surface, without overdoing the lighting. It’s actually really intuitive and functional, with some RGB for good measure.

As standard it’s a 3XL cloth, so you’re looking at 48 x 24 inches, accommodating your entire keyboard and mouse setup. It’s ideal for the best PC gaming mouses because it allows you to cover all possible lines on motion, without veering off the mat and making an error.

However, they do offer a wide range of sizes and colors on the official website, if you have a particularly unique setup or want a logo or theme. Sizes can reach 5XL, but the price rises steeply and it’s rare for someone to need anything larger than 3XL.

The surface is made from a tough but smooth micro-woven cloth, which is comfortable to the hand and allows for superior accuracy. It works well for both low and high DPI tracking. It also has a great non-slip rubber base. We literally had to peel it off our desk to get it to move to another position.

As noted, the lighting is more minimal than other products, running around the edges of the pad, not illuminating your entire room.  You’ll get 2 zones to program and 360-degree illumination, and you can get it to react to certain in-game actions like low health or kills, which is really fun.

At an MSRP of $99.99, it’s competitively priced and adds that extra swagger many of us gamers are looking for in a cool computer accessory.

They’re expensive and striking, but as far as pro gamer accessories go, you haven’t had the full experience without a gaming chair.

The new 2022 Titan Evo edition has it all. It looks great without going overboard and is as comfortable as a warm hug. That, in addition to the three different sizes and upgraded materials, made it our top pick.

SecretLab has already carved out a niche for using high-quality materials and this time it’s even better, with improved Neo Hybrid leather. Say goodbye to regular PU, this is 12-times stronger!

Even the SoftWeave version has been re-engineered to be 3.5 times more durable, more comfortable, with more room to breathe. If you prefer a softer fabric surface, go for this one.

If you’re building the ultimate gaming setup, you can choose from several colors and special themed editions. Go with all black for the office or bust out the head-turning Cyberpunk 2077 or Overwatch editions.

Whatever size you pick, you’re guaranteed for weights of up to 395lbs pounds, though the XL version puts the price up from $499 to $549. Perhaps the only thing lacking is a lumbar pillow, but a new, in-built lumbar retractor does a fine job.

There’s also a magnetic headrest so you can do away with those fiddly straps. Just be careful not to knock it too hard because it has been known to go flying. Magnets can also be found in the padded 4D armrests. So, you can replace the padding when it wears out or if you wish to upgrade to the Technogel variety.

As well as all conceivable adjustments, the pebble-lipped seat puts you at an incline for ergonomic purposes. Meanwhile, the bucket design ensures your posture is always supported. It reclines so far back you might as well take a nap!

You don’t have the coolest gaming setup unless you have a chair like this.

This $459.99 edition from Noblechairs is extremely comfortable and well designed. If like us, you’re a fan of the professional over the gaudy and vibrant look, this is the chair for you.

It comes in all black and faux leather (with a premium $719 real leather version). You get a trusty lumbar pillow and head cushion for good measure. Aesthetically it is undeniably a racing chair, but we’d happily do office work in-between gaming sessions and not feel silly.

Alternatively, if you want something a bit more distinctive, there are also special premium themed chairs like the bright blue Fallout Vault version or black and red Doom edition.

One downside is that the lumbar pillow does not strap in place and often slips, doing the opposite of what it’s supposed to. Nonetheless, we found the chair comfortable enough without using it at all, so it all depends on your personal preferences.

Overall, it’s very functional, with a metal backrest lever, button adjusted armrests for four directions, and you can position the back exactly where you want it. Our only complaint is that because of the adjustability and an oddly thin design the arms feel a bit flimsy.

Furthermore, the premium upgrades are only really there if you have the cash to splash. The regular version feels as close to leather as you’re going to get, and we didn’t experience any of the clamminess you get with cheaper products. If you want to play the must-have PC games in comfort, this chair should be high on your list.

Wheels are must-have gaming PC accessories for racers, and the Logitech G series of wheels has set the standard since the early 2000s. The G920, with wheel, shifter, and pedals, for PC and Xbox One, continues to sell in high numbers and hold its place among the best. PlayStation users will have to drop down to the G29, which itself is still a great wheel.

The G920 stands out with excellent force feedback, responsive and smooth steering, and a flawless gear stick, though we’re somewhat let down by the pedals. You get all three for acceleration, braking, and clutch, and all offer well-synced progressive response (i.e. it’s not just off and on, you’re really in control and can find your biting point, etc).

However, as many reviews will attest, the brake pedal is abnormally hard to push and over time can be quite an annoyance. It’s not a deal-breaker and it’s still one of the best computer gaming controller wheels.

Steering on the other hand is perfect, with 900 degrees of rotation. This means you can really palm spin it rather than just twisting a bit left and right like a toy. It also has one of the best force feedback systems on the market, meaning you’ll really feel the difference between speeds, surfaces, and spinning out into a wall.

Now available for less than $400, we think it’s worth the price tag to get behind the wheel of some of the fastest cars in Forza Horizon 4.

The developer behind Gran Turismo 7, Polyphony Digital, teamed up with Fanatec to bring a brand new product to the franchise. While the Fanatec GT DD Pro is a licensed PS5 gaming wheel, it’s fully compatible with PC.

The DD in the name refers to the Direct Drive feature which adds even more realism to sim racing. It’s the latest tech that ensures the user can experience the full force feedback of the motor.

This entire device looks great and it can easily fit into any PC gaming setup.

The wheel is lightweight and 11 inches in diameter, allowing a crisp response. Steering-wise, you can turn it up to 2520 degrees. It also allows fast rotation back to the center, meaning that you can throw it around without losing control over the vehicle.

The entire base is made from metal. The actual wheel is wrapped in black rubber for comfort and grip. Only the lower interior part features silver plastic. The wheel also includes a LED strip for signifying engine speed and an OLED display.

Fanatec equipped the wheel with 11 PlayStation buttons, but with joysticks and paddle shifters, there are a total of 38 keys you can use.

Of course, with the wheel, you get a two-magnetic pedal set with both vertical and horizontal adjustments.

Fanatec GT DD Pro surely is one of the best gaming accessories PC driving simulator enthusiasts can find. So, its hefty price tag of $699.95 doesn’t come as a surprise.

With Microsoft Flight Simulator back on the proverbial radar and other cool PC games for flight, so are the yoke systems to authentically control your flights. Logitech’s most noteworthy entry is the G Saitek co-developed PRO Flight Yoke System, offering great value compared to other similar devices. Although it lacks some bells and whistles, it can be picked up for less than $200, which is a steal.

It features a fully functional yoke and throttle and has a sturdy overall plastic design with a stainless-steel shaft. There are also three throttle knobs, 24 buttons to program your cockpit, and an LED display to give you your flight information. And, don’t worry about the thing flying across your desk as it can be fully fastened down with rubber-based clamps.

More expensive products might offer a slightly more realistic and engaging flying experience (pitch control isn’t always that smooth), but overall, the Logitech Flight Yoke System provides the best balance when it comes to budget and performance. It is one of the leading flight gaming accessories for PC. You can always trust gaming gear companies like Logitech to deliver.

For less than $150 MSRP you can skip the Yoke system and go for the simpler setup of throttle and stick, with Logitech’s G X52 ‘simulation controller’. However, it still comes packed with features including a multi-function display, rotary dials, numerous programmable buttons, without mentioning the throttle and joystick themselves.

The joystick uses spring force for realism and a precision centering mechanism, giving you full control.

The progressive throttle can have its tension adjusted with a dial on the side and features detents for afterburner. There are also two fire buttons since this style of setup is more akin to fighter jets than passenger planes. It also works quite well with helicopter simulator games.

The build quality is good and although it is plastic it doesn’t feel cheap. The only downside is the joystick could do with a bit more resistance, which has been implemented so well on the throttle.

The X52 is PC only, with a USB 2.0 connection. Depending on your setup, the cable can actually be a little short so consider using a spare or buying a second.

good router is important gamers gear so you can properly prioritize bandwidth, provide Wi-Fi over a wide range, and stabilize your connection. For that, it doesn’t get much better than the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300.

It comes with a number of gaming-specific features including the ability to actually prioritize specific games on the network, not just gaming in general. There are hundreds of preconfigured titles ready to rock and they’re updated quite regularly.

Furthermore, the router can work as a WTFast client, which means automatically connecting to the Gamers Private Network directly rather than having to use WTFast software on your PC. In other words, you will find the best server for your game without having to do anything.

Eight LAN ports allow you to wire more devices so Wi-Fi doesn’t destabilize your connection and there’s Quality of Service (QoS) for further prioritization settings.

As a tri-band router the Rapture GT-AC5300 has a 1GB 2.4GHz band and two 2GB 5GHz bands, along with 8 powerful antennas and MU-MIMO, which means multiple devices can use multiple Wi-Fi tiers without slowing either down – perfect for the gamer with family members using the network.

If you’re building a gaming setup PC and can afford $349.99, it’s a no brainer.

While RGB lighting in the gaming community is a bit controversial. Nobody really needs flashing lights and it doesn’t improve gaming performance. As a set of speakers, the Logitech G560s offer great sound quality and the immersive lighting is done the right way in our opinion.

First off, the built-in DTS:X Virtual Surround Sound performs really well. And, although it’s not quite the same as having a large 5.1 or 7.1 authentic setup, it does surprisingly well at pinpointing where gunfire, shouting and other sounds are coming from directionally while gaming.

That’s without mentioning the impressive down-firing subwoofer that will quite literally blow you out of your seat if hit with an explosion of careering off the road mid-play. Yes, it’s not high-res and it won’t impress an audiophile, but for immersive gaming, it works well and will not break your bank balance at less than $200. It’s one of the best PC accessories in the speaker category right now.

So, about that lighting – you get 12 RGB LEDs (6 per speaker), facing in both directions. You can set this up in numerous ways, such as rainbowing and/or pulsing to the sound of music, or as reactions to in-game actions.

This is most effective during gunfire with flashing. There is even an immersive mode that changes color and mood depending on what’s on the screen. That’s how RGB gaming lighting should be done!

For $149 you can pick up this solid set of RGB lighting speakers for gaming that really perform well when you sync up with other Razer RGB compatible devices. The sound quality is not there for music lovers, but that’s not to say it’s bad either. Just make sure you’re using them at your desk gaming, not sat far back for movies, or listening to your favorite songs.

When it comes to low notes, the Nommo’s perform surprisingly well and you can adjust the bass depending on what you’re playing for a better experience. The subwoofer is loud! There is some detail lacking at the high-end but it’s still clear – a perfectly fine set of speakers at this price point.

Unlike other RGB speakers, it is not overdone either. The color emits around the circumference of the bottom of the speakers, so they aren’t going to blind you or even particularly illuminate a room unless it’s really dark.

You can get a more vibrant and immersive experience if you use the Razer software and sync up with other Razer RGB Chroma devices. Overall, these are good computer speakers and perfect for cool PC setups that incorporate lighting.

Gaming monitors can be particularly difficult to buy for, despite being PC gaming necessities. There’s a lot of mis-selling and slapping the term ‘gaming’ on a low spec screen with a high refresh rate and getting disappointed. Fortunately, ASUS has a long and positive reputation in the market and the ROG Swift PG279Q is perfect for gamers that don’t want to fork out for the largest screen or make the jump to 4K and HDR. One of the best gaming accessories on the market.

The raw specs? This is a 27-inch IPS panel with 165Hz refresh rate and full sRGB color. Couple this with NVIDIA G-SYNC and we’re already set for fast and smooth gaming with no tearing or stutter, as well as a vibrant and full range of colors.

You’ll then get 2560x1440p resolution, which in layman’s terms is better than HD but not yet 4K. What it does mean is those in-game edges are going to super smooth without even adding aliasing in the game settings, and because it’s a 27-incher, it’s going to be sharp as well.

Finally, once your gaming is done, the fact that it’s an IPS LCD means it will also look pretty good for photo and video editing and watching movies thanks to good color reproduction.

While $649.99 isn’t cheap, in the world of monitors and with all these specs coming together under one roof, you’re on the way to an awesome gaming setup.

A pro gaming setup needs a good monitor. If you’re on the curved train, then you may as well consider the Samsung 49-inch gaming monitor that delivers it to you ultra-wide at a 32:9 ratio. This fills your entire field of view and is about as close as you can get to VR before actually using VR.

It also goes all the way with the extra specs, including High Dynamic Range (HDR), for more detail in extreme light and extreme dark environments, and ‘Quantum Dot’ which boasts a ‘billion shades of accurate color’. While that might be pushing it, we played with it and there’s no denying that it looks fantastic.

You also get Radeon FreeSync 2 support for smooth gameplay and no screen-tearing at a good 144Hz refresh rate.

Going back to HDR, this is one of the few screens we’ve tested that has properly implemented it rather than meeting the minimum specs and slapping on the label. A lot of monitors are technically HDR but when you turn it on in-game it looks worse than before. Here, if the game has implemented it correctly, it’s going to look stunning.

To conclude, while it’s obviously an expensive $800+ gaming monitor, it’s perfect sitting centrally in your computer gaming setup. It has other regular advantages too – the number of tabs and windows you can have open while working is insane!

Good accessories for a gaming setup must include a keyboard, and arguably one of the best available is the SteelSeries Apex Pro. It has a lovely aluminum build with custom actuation settings, so you get an instant response or a nice snap when you press each magnetic key. Set it one way for typing and another for a gaming computer keyboard.

For that privilege, you will be paying around $119 but other features make this justifiable. SteelSeries is quickly becoming one of the top gaming keyboard brands. It has a premium yet minimalist design, with no wasted space, a wrist rest that actually is comfortable (though you can remove it if you prefer), and an OLED display for observing actuation pressure, setting custom GIFs or logos, and lighting.

The RGB lighting itself isn’t the most programmable and you’ll get a spurt of illumination with each key press alongside a more general hum.

For pure performance, it’s one of the best. The custom actuation sends it over the edge if you’ve got a hardcore gaming PC and want to tune with your own speed and precision. One useful function is to downplay one key (for example, that you’re accidentally pressing during gaming), so you don’t lose your flow.

Overall, if it’s in your budget range this is a high-end gaming keyboard and will help you build one of the best gaming setups.

If you’re done with your cheap gaming setup and want a pro-level setup, this PC gaming keyboard performs excellently across the board. It’s $229.99 from the official site. The BlackWidow V3 Pro from Razer is one of those cool gaming accessories we think is definitely worth the price tag.

Its key selling point is a mechanical key technology. This feels great when used for typing and is forgiving for intense gamers, preventing them from accidentally pressing keys unless they give enough pressure for the click.

You can switch between connectivity modes (USB, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi). Within the 2.4Ghz connection, we found it to perform just as well as the wired USB mode.

As with most awesome computer keyboards you get a thick removable wrist-rest and that loveable Razer Chroma RGB lighting. That means quite the light show should you set it up that way.

The Blackwidow V3 Pro is also extremely durable, made from a combination of an aluminum frame, plastic molding, rubber non-slip elements, and faux leather for the forearm rest. It also has extra support behind the keys to accommodate constant presses and ‘double-shot molding’. The latter prevents the lettering and numbering from fading away after prolonged use.

It’s a solid entry into the gaming keyboard market and one of those must-have computer accessories to finish off your high-level gaming setup. You can even upgrade a number of features if you really want that luxury feel.

Virtual Reality gaming is still taking its steady time to fully ‘arrive’ as it were, sitting somewhere between Nintendo Wii gimmickry and 3D televisions. However, Meta continues to press on with its PC gaming gadgets and the Quest 2 has made some noticeable upgrades. The price tag sits at $399 MSRP, a bit more than other models like the Rift S.

It has insight tracking cameras directly in the headset rather than having to be mounted outwardly. Meanwhile, the dual Oculus Touch controllers register your precise hand movements and triggers in the virtual world.

Resolution is also up, giving you 50 percent more pixels than the original quest. You get 1,832-by-1,920 per eye, for a combined 3,664 x 1,920

As well as the ever-growing library of good computer games exclusive to the Oculus, the Quest 2 is also backward compatible with all former Oculus games. So, if you’re upgrading you don’t have to immediately spend a lot on new games.

Whether you use it as a standalone device or connect it to your PC to experience more power and a wider library of VR-compatible games, this is our top choice for VR right now. In the VR scene, it is some of the best gaming tech available.

When it comes to the definition of accessories, the Razer Base Station V2 is sat right there. Do you need it? No. Is it still one of the best PC gadgets? Yes!

Essentially for no more than $69 you can get a flashy stand for your headset that has its own RGB lighting to continue the party. It comes in Classic Black, Quartz Pink, or Mercury White.

Functionally, it’s exactly that – a headset stand, not some kind of central Wi-Fi hub or docking station. However, it does have 2 USB 3.1 ports to pitch in if you’re already overloading your PC or charging ports. So, there’s that.

This second-generation version also comes with a 3.5mm port with built-in DAC support for 7.1 surround sound. Combine this with your Razer headset and you can get good quality directional sound in-game without taking up any of the ports directly on your PC tower.

The RGB light itself emits from the base of the stand, which is removable for portability. It’s not quite as flamboyant as the lava lamps of old, but it gets the job done when you’ve presumably got a bunch of other Razer RGB gear flashing around the room as well.

And, that’s really who it’s aimed at. Existing Razer users with some spare cash that want to add the finishing touches to their gamer accessories. If that’s you, we say go for it!

If you have no idea what any of this means, go buy pizza and get back to gaming!

It’s certainly not what every PC gamer needs but the Elgato Stream Deck is a genuinely useful accessory for hardcore streamers that want to make their broadcasts easier with shortcuts. Something about the little gadget gives an average gamer’s desk a studio vibe, and it’s just super fun to use.

So, what exactly is it? In essence, it’s a physical deck of 15 programmable buttons with customizable LCD screens to add appropriate icons. It’s designed for video game streamers using services like Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer and wanting an easy way to shortcut streaming functions. Maybe you want to go live, jump over to chat, set a common filter, or make a common sound effect or jingle, save a clip, or open a browser to search for something. It can also be used for opening programs and apps.

While it’s not fundamentally just for streamers, that’s who it is marketed at. You can, in theory, program each button to shortcut almost anything, much like most keyboards do with the calculator, email, volume, browser buttons, etc.

It’s quite a sturdy plastic design that you can lay flat or sit at an angle via the stand, and it will do so without slipping. It won’t take up too much space either, measuring 0.8 by 4.6 by 3.3 inches.

It connects via USB, comes with its own easy-to-use software, and there are plugins so you can also control your RGB lighting.

It’s a really neat gadget for the professional streamer and one of our top-rated cool PC peripherals.

When it goes to gaming stuff for PC, regardless of how you play gaming, accessories like gaming mice are essential. DeathAdder v2 Pro by Razer is expensive at $129.99 but it has one of the best 20K DPI sensors on the market, has the perfect shape and texture for grip. It also has 8 programmable buttons and an optical mouse switch to prevent any unwanted double clicks. It also has a long battery life of up to 120 hours

The DeathAdder is ideal for the top computer games that require aiming and accuracy and is as good as a gamer computer mouse can get.

As a wireless mouse goes, its tracking speed is class-leading, recording 650 IPS (inches per second), and it boasts latencies of less than 0.2ms. That’s about as responsive as you can get in PC gaming peripherals, without mentioning its automatic mouse mat calibration.

Using the Synapses software, you can also fine-tune things to your liking, altering the sensitivity from anywhere from 100-20,000 CPI.

Wirelessly it connects via the 2.4Ghz band, which puts it on par with the best-wired mice. There is also a Bluetooth option, but this would be pointless to choose when the stronger and superior signal is right there.

It’s certainly worth it if you’re looking for pro gamer gear.

Logitech makes some of the best gaming equipment, and this extends to mice. A lightweight, accurate, and responsive computer gamer mouse is what you need, and the adjustable DPI model delivers.

Its weight is adjustable between 121g and 139g with 5 removable weights, allowing you the perfect weighting for your preferred playstyle or individual games. When it comes to price it also can’t be beaten at just $48.58 on Amazon.

Where it really stands out is with the class-leading Hero sensor. This allows for 1:1 tracking, over 400 IPS in speed, and using the DPI switcher between 100 and 25,600 DPI sensitivity.

For those that like to decide what their buttons do, there’s a total of 11 programmable ones. You can even save 5 profiles that can be easily switched between if you prefer different setups for different games.

Taking a leaf out of Razer’s book, Logitech also allows for a few strips of RGB lighting, with a range of 16.8 million colors. This might be used to match your game’s team or sync with other Logitech G gear.

Overall, for the budget gamer, this computer gaming mouse is remarkably high-end in build and performance.

One of the best PC mouses at less than $100 comes from Corsair M65 Elite RGB, which hovers around $75. It has a surprisingly comfortable grip, excellent performance, and is customizable to suit your gameplay style. And, if you’re into RGB lighting, it has that too!

Design-wise, it is made from a premium anodized aluminum frame, giving it a long life. Meanwhile, you get a soft but non-slip grip and the much-needed DPI sensitivity button. This can be tuned in increments of 1 all the way to 18,000 DPI. Overall, it feels nice and works intuitively, and if you like a lighter or heavier experience, there are three removable weights at the bottom. This allows you to game between 97g and 115g.

The lighting comes from the scroll wheel, so it’s not overdone. Furthermore, there are a total of eight fully programmable buttons.

Programming the buttons and lighting is easy with the iCue software. For beginners, it will work great out of the box without needing to mess with anything.

Gamers must remain wired via USB, no Bluetooth, so expect no lag. This makes it compatible with both PC and Xbox, including the new One S and One X systems.

If you’re looking for a modern mouse that strikes a fair balance between price and performance, the Corsair M65 Elite RGB is one of the best gaming peripherals around.

If you’re unsure what a keypad is for, it’s used by advanced MMO players who need extra programmable buttons without necessarily using a keyboard. One of the more unique computer accessories, it combines some mouse functionality at the same time, making the whole process more efficient. And, Razer along with its patented chroma lighting does it well, if you’re looking for cool gaming keyboards with niche purposes.

While it’s one of those gaming products most users won’t find much utility in, high-level MMO players will appreciate the intuitive button layout. The buttons themselves are easy to program. The only downside is these are membrane keys, not mechanical, which arguably doesn’t match the $100 price tag.

Nonetheless, what you do get is a comfortable hand rest, four rows of five keys, not counting the roll wheel. Then to the side is a thumb-based spacebar, eight-directional D-pad, and another button for good measure (pre-set as the Alt key).

Razer describes this all as an ‘ergonomic keypad’ which means it can essentially function as a full one, albeit in a niche and comfortable configuration. It also has some utility for graphics designers and editors that know their shortcuts.

For what it’s designed for, it does the job well. However,§ it’s a very niche product in the video game accessories market. At the moment, it’s easily the best MMO keyboard.

One of the more niche gadgets for PC users on our list, the K585 gaming keyboard by Redragon is reminiscent of old gameboards. It’s aimed at Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) PC gaming setups – those who need something one-handed and fast but with all the keys still there. It’s comfortable and has a good number of features.

To start with it has a full keypad and 7 programmable macro keys with savable profiles, and a full-blown forearm rest to keep things comfortable during long gaming sessions. The whole thing is just 11 x 9 x 2 inches – not even half a regular keyboard. This allows you to have all of your game’s functions at your fingertips without the bulk of a traditional keyboard.

While the device itself is wired, it has a USB passthrough port allowing you to add a wireless adapter to pair with other devices like mice and headsets. Or, obviously, you can just plug them in via USB as well.

The keys themselves are mechanical, which feel great and also prevent accidental presses because you need to hear the click for it to register. They’re also somewhat dustproof and you get some great RGB lighting for some added flair. This backlights the keys and can be set to 5 different modes.

Ultimately, the Redragon K585 is just one of those cool PC accessories. It’s the kind of thing you put on a gamer Christmas list. It is actually pretty functional when they fire up WOW.

At just $42.99 it cannot be beaten. The only real downside is that it’s not that great for people with small hands.

Wolverine Ultimate is an RGB offering by Razer in the game controller category. If you’re more of a console gamer or like to be hands-on while playing PC games, this is a fun and functional choice. Not only can you swap in and out the thumbsticks and D-pads for aesthetic, comfort, and practical reasons, but it also makes the $99,99 investment last longer – a broken part doesn’t mean an entirely new controller purchase.

As far as gaming accessories go it’s got the right idea. It has the cool RGB lighting and customization, but it’s also practical. That’s because it comes with 4 added buttons that can be reprogrammed and that lighting is only a small strip, so as not to get distracted while gaming.

Truth be told, it’s one of the most comfortable combined Xbox/PC controllers we’ve tried, mostly thanks to the shape and soft grip material. But also, because you can put in sticks and modules that suit your hands and style of play. It’s also fun to just mix it up to prevent repetitive strain injury.

At around $160 it’s a bit pricey for a ‘wired’ control pad, but as long as you don’t want to be far away from your monitor, it’s not a dealbreaker. Wired controllers have better responsiveness and never cut out because of the signal.

Overall, it’s the most comfortable gaming controller on our list.

When it comes to customizing your game controller, none is better in 2022 than the Thrustmaster ESWAP X Pro, which has an official license from Xbox. Not only is it guaranteed to work for the latest Xbox consoles, but Microsoft allows for plug-and-play on PCs as well.

It has several different modules you can interchange, including the main hand grips, left and right thumbsticks, D-pads, and triggers. You can mix and match color combinations or go for the standard black, camo green, or camo blue styles.

As well as making gaming comfortable and fun, we like these swappable components because they increase the life of the controller. How many times have you ruined your thumbstick and then paid out for a whole new controller? Now you just need to pay for the thumbstick.

We also liked the ‘mechanical clear click’ technology. This is a bit like a mechanical keyboard that has a definitive click when pressed. It allows you to frantically game without accidentally tapping other buttons unless you make a conscious effort to push as far as the click.

At $200, the Thrustmaster is not badly priced for a finely tuned gaming controller and the warranty guarantees it for 5 million activations.

The only thing that can be considered a downside is that it’s required to be wired at all times, though all that really means is you’re going to get the best responsiveness possible. Do, is it really a downside?

Currently, it’s on our list for must-have gaming equipment, and we’re mostly PC gamers.

FAQ.

What accessories do I need for PC gaming?

PC gaming differs from consoles in that it’s more customizable and has more variety. What you need and what gamers stuff is out there are perhaps two different things. For the absolute best experience you’ll need the following in your computer accessory set:

  • At least a headset, or standalone mic and headphones, to interact with others or to stream
  • A gaming mouse for responsive movement and accurate aiming
  • Speakers with some form of directional sound technology so you can hear where different sounds are coming from in the gaming environment
  • A good router that can prioritize your online gaming and keep your connection fast and stable
  • A gaming chair if you intend to spend hours in gaming sessions and want to remain comfortable
  • Extra PC accessories for gaming - a gaming wheel or flight gear for racers and flight simulators, virtual reality headsets, gaming keyboards for better key press response, and mats/pads for a smoother surface to go with your mouse/keyboard set
  • The best computer gaming controller

What every PC gamer should have?

Besides the hardware, such as a powerful CPU, graphics card, and RAM, the single most important thing a gamer PC should have is a gaming monitor. If you don’t have a high refresh rate, Freesync or Gsync technology, and at least 1440p resolution, the game will look bad graphically.

At some point, you’re also going to be playing a first-person shooter and for that, a gaming mouse is a must. The difference in speed and precision is the difference between winning and losing. These are the things every PC gamer needs. Other gaming computer accessories add functionality but aren’t required.

What are the best gaming accessories?

We all like a bit of flair and RGB lighting with our gaming but we believe the best PC gaming accessories are ones that have performance, functionality, and immersion to gaming itself – if lighting comes with it, so be it. With no budgetary constraints we choose:

Steelseries Arctis Pro Gaming Headset, Steelseries QCK PRISM CLOTH mat, Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 router, Logitech G560 speakers, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q monitor, SteelSeries Apex Pro Keyboard, and Razer Viper Ultimate Gaming Mouse.

What is a good gift for a gamer?

You won’t want to break your bank balance on a gift for a gamer nor get something they probably already have, that leaves some of the cool extra PC gaming accessories:

  • The Razer Tartarus V2 Gaming Keypad, if they’re into MMOs
  • The Elgato Stream Deck if they’re into ‘Twitch’ streaming
  • Any of the wheels or flight accessories which you could purchase with the games if they don’t already have them
  • The Razer Base Station if they have the headset
  • Or, any of the gaming mats/surfaces make for a good gaming gear gift
