Sugar scrub or Salt scrub? Which should you choose?
Exfoliation is so important for our skin health – it's how we can achieve soft, smooth and radiant skin. Our skin naturally sheds dead cells over an extended period of time, but adding exfoliation into your routine at home weekly will help speed the process along so you can always have irresistibly touchable skin all the time.
Sugar and Salt are used as a form of physical/manual exfoliation
Manual exfoliation involves using a product with a “grit” texture and in this case today, we’ll be looking at salt vs. scrub.
What is a Sugar Scrub:
Sugar scrubs are a less abrasive, finer grit and gentler on the skin option, of the two. They are also naturally hydrating for the skin, as sugar helps to draw water into the skin. Add that benefit with some uber-hydrating natural oils like Coconut or Monoï and the result is a great option for people with sensitive or dry skin in need.
We recommend:
Sublime Body Scrub from Cinq Mondes
This sugar-based scrub, with Coconut grains perfectly exfoliates while nourishing Avocado, Monoï and Noni intensely rehydrates very dry or irritated skin. BONUS: it smells like a beautiful day on the island!
What is a Salt Scrub :
Salt is naturally a more coarse option that brings a deeper exfoliation to effectively slough away dead skin. Great for thicker skin areas like elbows, knees and feet. As well, salt is rich in minerals such as magnesium and calcium, which aid in a detoxification process at the same time. That being said, mineral-rich salt can be dehydrating to the skin as it draws out impurities, so it's not the best option for someone with dry, sensitive skin. On the other hand, it naturally stimulates circulation helping to soothe aches and pains.
We recommend:
Aromatic Scrub with Spices from Cinq Mondes
This sea-salt based body scrub effectively purifies and soothes sore, tired muscles. A special cocktail of Vanilla, Cinnamon and Nutmeg essential oils permeate your tub or shower to create an unforgettable aromatic experience that exfoliates and relaxes an overworked body.
Exfoliation Tips :
- Exfoliate no more then 2x per week. (Sensitive skin's less)
- Not for sunburned skin
- Not for skin with any type of rash or breakouts. Check with your dermatologist.
- Always apply a moisturizer or body oil after exfoliating which will restore lipids and calm skin down after exfoliation.
