Reset skin for fall: 5 tips to transition your routine
After having our last bit of summer pleasure during this past 3-day weekend, kids are back to school, and the first day of fall is quickly approaching. As the seasons change, so should our skincare routines. Fall is the perfect time to “clear away the old to prepare for the new”, provide skin with extra nourishment and target areas of concern, such as signs of aging. Focus on ingredients such as Glycolic Acid to exfoliate and shed dead skin from the summer and ultra-conditioning oils such as Argan and Evening Primrose to soften, nourish and properly hydrate the skin.
1. Use a comforting cream or balm cleanser
Cooling gel or mousse cleansers have been your best friend during the hot, humid months – they are great performers when it comes to keeping oil levels in check. But, as the temps and humidity start to drop, the moisture levels in your skin drop also. Continuing to use your standard summer cleansers could result in unnecessary dehydration. Opt for a nurturing cream cleanser or cleansing balm that effectively deep clean the pores, balance oil but also properly hydrate skin with their emollient consistency’s.
Try: Bio-Cellular Super Cleanse Cream Cleanser or Purify & Soothe Cleansing Balm
2. Exfoliate with AHAs
Fall is peel season! The perfect way to reset your skin after the summer is by exfoliating away all the dead skin to reveal a fresh, vibrant, healthy layer. Using an Alpha-Hydroxy Acid-based (AHAs) exfoliant 1-2x per week is quick, gentle and efficient, setting the stage for your skin to absorb all that new hydration in the next steps.
Try: Skin Resurfacing Multi-Acid Pads
3. Add in a Hyaluronic Acid serum
Serums are the all-star performer in your skincare routine – they contain a high concentration of actives to target specific concerns (ie: anti-wrinkle/hydration) and penetrate the layers of skin on a deeper level than a moisturizer. Fall is the perfect time to incorporate this hydration power-house ingredient: Hyaluronic Acid. Its capable of holding 1,000 times its weight in water, cushioning the skin to dramatically plump the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
4. Upgrade your moisturizer to something more hydrating
The oh-so-hot days of summer are behind us and the cool air is moving in. This means, you can trade in those lightweight moisturizer formulas that keep the shine at bay, and opt for a thicker moisturizer that provides skin with ample hydration. When skin is properly hydrated, you are less likely to experience any unwanted dehydration lines and wrinkles.
Try: Cell Plumping Moisturizer
5. Keep using an SPF
Sunscreens need to be part of your everyday routine, no matter what season. Even though we’re not beachside until next summer, the sun’s UV rays can penetrate skin for any amount of time you are outdoors or near windows. Sun protection is the key to anti-aging!
